FAQ

How do I become a patient?

To book an appointment please call the clinic at 902-894-3868, email [email protected] or book online. All of our doctors are currently accepting new patients and we welcome referrals but they are not required.

Does the clinic have parking available?

Yes. Parking is available beside The Root Cellar building for the duration of your appointment. Please do not exceed this time, as there are limited parking spaces to be shared by all customers of The Root Cellar and patients of our clinic.

What do I need to bring to my initial naturopathic consultation?

Bring a copy of your latest bloodwork. This can be requested at your family doctor’s office or medical records at the hospital closest to your family doctor (QEH for Charlottetown doctors and PCH for Summerside doctors). If you have not had bloodwork done within the last year, we will discuss what bloodwork may be indicated at your initial consultation.

What can I expect from my initial naturopathic consultation?

Your first appointment will last 1 hour and includes a thorough review of your health history, your chief concern(s), and an assessment of contributing factors. Any recent bloodwork will be reviewed to ensure all results are optimal, and any recommended testing will be discussed. Your naturopathic doctor may also perform a complaint oriented physical exam. Once all pertinent information is collected, your naturopathic doctor will create an individualized treatment plan for you.

Is naturopathic medicine backed by research?

Naturopathic medical therapies have a long history of safe, effective use that is supported by scientific evidence and continues to grow daily as science evolves.

Do I need to leave my family doctor if I want to become a patient with Simmonds McMurrer?

No. Naturopathic doctors collaborate with your family doctor and other health professionals.

What if I am taking prescription medicines – can I still receive naturopathic treatment?

Yes. Naturopathic doctors have extensive training in safely combining prescription medications with naturopathic therapies. Naturopathic therapies can enhance the effectiveness, reduce the side-effects, and correct nutrient deficiencies from your prescription medications.

Will my visit to a naturopathic doctor be covered by Health PEI?

No. However; most private health plans do cover naturopathic consultations. Check with your insurance provider about naturopathic coverage.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours notice to reschedule your appointment. This can be done via email, voicemail, or through our online booking system. Patients will be charged the full fee for a missed appointment. For storm cancellations, please call the office prior to your appointment to confirm if we are open. If you are unable to make your appointment due to weather, you will not be charged for a missed appointment.
